Kelly, Berlin Totem Installation & Sol LeWitt, Wall Drawing #1256: Five Pointed Stars - In February, 2008, Ellsworth Kelly’s forty-foot-high stainless steel totem was permanently installed in the courtyard garden of the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, Germany. At the same time, a team from Sol LeWitt’s studio installed Wall Drawing #1256: Five Pointed Stars, in the embassy’s Behrenstra%e entrance. |

Joel Shapiro, Conjunction - This film features, Conjunction, a large-scale bronze sculpture, which was commissioned by FAPE in 1998, and installed at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, in the following year. |

Elyn Zimmerman, Mkusanyiko wa Marafiki / Assembly of Friends - This film features Mkusanyiko wa Marafiki (Assembly of Friends), a large-scale sculpture, that groups six related geometric forms around a granite-rimmed pool. It was commissioned by FAPE in 2002 for the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was installed in June 2004. |
FAPE is co-producing with Checkerboard Film Foundation, NY, a series of profiles to document the creation of site-specific work by American artists that have been commissioned by FAPE for U.S. embassies throughout the world. To date, profiles have been completed on Joel Shapiro (Ottawa, Canada), and Elyn Zimmerman (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania). Currently in production are videos on Ellsworth Kelly (Beijing, China), Sol LeWitt (U.S. Mission to the United Nations, New York), Dorothea Rockburne (Kingston, Jamaica), Michael Singer (Athens, Greece), and the Gee’s Bend artists. These videos are intended for use by the respective U.S. embassies and the U.S. Department of State. They will also be distributed by Checkerboard to its traditional educational market.
